“The brothers are great improvisers, with Dissel providing a solid basis that perfectly matches Strik’s remarkable, weighty swing.”
Marnix Busstra is a versatile man, and you may know him as the director, the guitarist, or the composer, or as the main supplier for and husband of singer Karin Bloemen. He’s also the leader of the fusion band Second Vision, and he has his own jazz quartet. On top of that there’s this beautiful group that he created with his brother Berthil, with René Dissel on double bass and Chris Strik on drums: the Buzz Bros Band, playing blissful, groovy jazz tunes on a fusion-ish foundation.
Their live DVD, The Same New Story, is real treat. The brothers are great improvisers, with Dissel providing a solid basis that perfectly matches Strik’s remarkable, weighty swing. Next to this eye- and ear-catching concert, the DVD offers an interesting interview, in which Berthil Busstra compares their music and the band to an evening of just sitting around with friends in utter silence – and everyone feeling perfectly content.
